Marketplace 2010 to Showcase Wisconsin Minority Business Awards - Apply Now!

For Immediate Release: July 28, 2010
Contact: Tony Hozeny, Department of Commerce, 608-267-9661

MADISON - Wisconsin minority-owned businesses seeking recognition for their achievements can apply to the Department of Commerce (Commerce) for the annual Outstanding Minority Business Awards Program, Commerce Secretary Aaron Olver announced today.

"Commerce is committed to supporting minority business development and celebrating the contributions of these businesses to the Wisconsin economy," Secretary Olver said. "I encourage minority-owned firms to apply on behalf of their own businesses or on behalf of other minority-owned companies that have achieved success."

There are three award categories: Outstanding Minority Business (two awards based on business size to honor successful companies); Rising Star (honoring an emerging company that shows innovation and promise); and Good Citizen (honoring a company that gives back to society).

Nominations will be accepted through August 11. Each nominee will be asked to complete an award application. Award applications will be accepted until August 25. The on-line nomination and award application are available at commerce.wi.gov/BD/BD-MBD-Marketplace-Awards.html.

The top award winners in each category will be invited to the Marketplace Governor's Luncheon held on October 13 at the Country Springs Hotel & Conference Center, Pewaukee. Marketplace 2010 is the premier matchmaking and training event for minority-owned businesses seeking to sell to government and large corporate buyers. For information on the awards application process, contact Carol Dunn at 608-267-0297 or carol.dunn@wi.gov.
