4.4 Inventory Control
If you are using inventory control as your method of leak detection it must be conducted in accordance with the requirements of the American Petroleum Institute’s Recommended Practice (RP) 1621 – Bulk Liquid Stock Control At Retail Outlets. Although this RP was written for retail outlets, the procedure is also valid for non-retail facilities.
Although inventory control (aka “inventory reconciliation”) is a relatively simple and straightforward procedure, it does require consistent and accurate execution each day.
Failure to follow the steps described in this chapter may lead to problems that can be aggravating to determine their cause and costly to correct. Consequently, there are several key points you need to remember when performing inventory control.
