4.5.1   Manual Tank Gauging Procedure

The procedure for using Manual Tank Gauging is as follows:

1.           Measure at Test Start: Take two measurements of the level of product in the tank at the start of the duration of the test. Calculate the average of the two measurements [ i.e. (A + B) / 2 ] . Record this value as the beginning measurement. Be sure to take the measurements using a gauge stick that is capable of measuring to within 1/8” inch over the full range of the tank’s diameter.

a.           Using the conversion chart (“strapping chart”) for the tank, convert the level measurement to gallons.   Record the gallons for the beginning measurement.

2.           Measure at Test End: Take two measurements of the level of product in the tank at the end of the duration of the test. Calculate the average of the two measurements and record this value as the ending measurement. During the period between the beginning and ending measurements no product can be added to, or withdrawn from the tank.
