13.1.4   Operation of Emergency Shutoff Systems

As the Class B operator you are required to make sure that Class C operators understand the function and operation of emergency shutoff systems, as well as their location on the premises of the facility.   There are several types of emergency shutoff systems. These include:

1.           Systems that interrupt and disable power to the pump used to deliver product into UST systems that receive pumped (motor pressurized) deliveries.

2.           Systems designed to stop the dispensing of product from the UST by disabling power to the submersible turbine pump for UST systems that use a pressurized piping system.

3.           Systems designed to stop the dispensing of product from the UST by disabling power to the dispensing equipment.   This can be used for UST systems that use either pressurized or suction piping systems.
