The typical procedure for responding to a spill is to:

1.           Engage the appropriate emergency shutoff device

2.           Contact 911

3.           Contact the responsible Class B Operator

4.           Put on a reflective vest and protective gloves

5.           Request any unauthorized individuals to move away from the spill area.

6.           Barricade the spill area with cones and tape

7.           Contain the spill using absorbent “pigs” or other absorbent material such as “kitty litter.”

8.           After the spill has been contained and the liquid has been absorbed dispose of the contaminated absorbent material in an approved container (e.g. 55-gallon steel drum)

9.           Label the drum according to OSHA HAZCOM requirements
