This component is mounted onto the leak detector port of submersible turbine pumps (STPs). It is designed to automatically detect a leak in a pressurized piping system. ELLDs can perform multiple types of leak tests designed to detect different rates of leaks from the piping. They can typically detect leak rates of 0.1, 0.2, and 3.0 GPH.
ELLDs control when the STP is activated and de-activated when conducting a leak test. The process used by ELLDs to detect the different leak rates varies among manufacturers. Consult with the manufacturer of the ELLDs installed at your facility to obtain this information.
When performing a leak test, if a leak is detected the ELLD will either signal an audible and visible alarm to be generated at the electronic console, and/or shut down the STP to prevent further pumping until the problem is investigated and resolved.
ELLDs must be UL® rated, compatible with the product stored in the tank, third-party certified by an independent testing organization, approved by the National Work Group on Leak Detection Evaluations (NWGLDE), and have a COMM 10 Material Approval for use with USTs installed in the State of Wisconsin.
Consult with the manufacturer of the ELLD(s) installed at your UST facility to determine all of the various capabilities and features, as well as proper maintenance, operation and repair requirements.
